Patriots Bill Belichick rumors: Trading or firing him would be a Belichick move

According to NBC Sports Boston’s Tom Curran, BIll Belichick will not be back with the Patriots next season.

But I don’t believe it.

Is it possible that Bill’s time in New England has ran its course? Possibly, but when looking at the pool of possible head coaches, I don’t see any that can flip around what has been done. The New England Patriots would be giving up their head coach and general manager all in one. That would be like making a rebuild-season plan for the next five seasons before even sniffing a playoff run.

What would happen to Bill O’Brien or Matt Patricia? Guys who have came up under the Belichick regime and got jobs as head coaches themselves including recently-fired Josh McDaniels. I highly doubt they would stay in New England or get the head coaching job. The ‘New England way’ is out the door? I just can’t fully see it.

What I can see is a new head of management. I can see Robert Kraft gaining back some control he gave up. If the rumors true however, that would mean a trade would be likely, and there isn’t a coach that would equal up to Bill. The only coach I can think of that might be on the hot seat right now as well is Mike Tomlin. Steelers are on track to have their first losing season under Tomlin, if he were to head to New England, I wouldn’t be as upset about it. And I think Pittsburgh definitely fits Bill’s coaching mindset. Defense first, hard work, nothing flashy.

No matter what happens it’s clear that a change needs to come. And it needs to happen right after the season. Ticket sales have gone down at Gillette, and the Patriots are on longer on the radar of the AFC East at all. December has typically always been when the Patriots shine, but it doesn’t matter if they do or not at this point.

Nonetheless, I don’t believe Bill goes, what do you think?

I hope for his sake he retires. Bill claimed that he did not want to be coaching at the age when Levy left coaching. Is it really worth it to chase Shula’s record when he is also close to setting a record for all time losses held by Dan Reeves and Jeff Fisher? https://www.pro-football-reference.com/coaches/
