These 4 stats help explain the Celtics' season (and how far they can go)

Now that offseason is officially here for all NBA teams, we can expect the free agency market to run wild. Dame Dollar and Fred Vanvleet are going to be all over ESPN and Fox Sports this summer. As for the Celtics, some fans are hoping for a change.

It’s not crazy that Boston fans are hoping for a roster change, the C’s didn’t make it to the Finals this season. It’s another year we have championship level talent, but can’t execute. Now people want to see a change.

One thing for sure, there’s some players on the roster that can’t be touched for multiple reasons, here they are:

Jayson Tatum

Aside from signing a max-deal for five-years, Tatum just can’t leave Boston, he’s that guy here. Sure, some folks will say his performance in the NBA Finals against the Warriors was lackluster, but this year he was at an MVP level. He’s only 25-years-old and averaged 30 points and 8.8 rebounds this regular season.

It’s proven that he’s the best guy on the roster, he’s young, and wants to stay in Boston. He just had his signature shoe released and has a lot going for him. Since Kobe Bryant was his mentor, and also might have the mindset of staying with one squad.

Malcolm Brogdon

In his first year with the Celtics, Brogdon averaged nearly 15 points a game off the bench. He was awarded the Sixth Man of the Year Award and deserves another year with a championship caliber team. He has two years left on his contract.

In the final games of the C’s season, it was released that Brogdon was facing a injury that tremendously hurt his play in the playoffs. But he showed to be a great addition from Brad Stevens.

Derrick White

As of White’s game 6 last second buzzer beater to force a game 7 in the ECF wasn’t enough of a reason–White was the third best player on the C’s roster. He still has two years left on his contract (for a great deal) and he’s proven to be a huge piece for the Celtics. He’s one of the Celtics most consistent players that can do it on both sides of the floor. Not a flashy guy, but works hard, can get buckets, and defends well.

The biggest issue from the Celtics has always come in the playoffs, especially late in the postseason to be exact. White has shown to be reliable in tense situations and rarely makes mistakes. When it comes to trading, he shouldn’t ever be discussed.
