Joe Mazzulla is clearly the guy when it comes to coaching the Boston Celtics for years to come, and C’s President Brad Stevens proved that.

Earlier this month, the Celtics signed Mazzulla to a multiyear contract extension. Length and details of the new deal were not released according to ESPN. The way Mazzulla was thrown into the fire was unconventional, he came off the tails of Ime Udoka, a coach who set pride in defense and found success. Under Udoka, the C’s made it to the finals but lost to the Warriors, they made deep playoff runs as well.

On the other hand, Mazzulla did walk into the Celtics situation with stars, money, and a crazy fan base. His philosophy of high-volume 3-point shooting has proved to be working as the C’s won an NBA Championship. Obviously, this past season was underwhelming but it wasn’t for Joe’s doing.

Now this upcoming season will go without Jayson Tatum (achilles), no Kristaps Porzingis or Jrue Holiday. We’re heading into a weird time for the Celtics, even ownership feels uncertain. However, making sure that the two stars of Tatum and Jaylen Brown, and Mazzulla staying should have C’s fans somewhat calm.

Not only that, but Mazzulla 100% embodies what Boston sports is all about. Earlier this month, he was seen at Harambe Park at the ‘Crew Love’ tournament, a hood holiday in the Greater Boston area. Brad Stevens wouldn’t be caught dead out there, Doc Rivers isn’t from Boston so he wouldn’t have been out there, but Mazzulla is a New England guy, from Rhode Island, he’s one of us. They had to keep him on the boat. Not only that, but he’s straight up when he talks, he doesn’t give a shit about what critics say, he knows there’s more to life than sports.

As we head into a season filled with uncertainty, one thing is for sure, Joe Mazzulla is here to stay.
