ORLANDO — In what was looking like a late-game comeback for the Boston Celtics Friday evening, didn’t come into fruition and ended up with the Orlando Magic taking Game 3 of the playoffs, final score 95-93.
The Magic defended their home court to make the series 2-1 Boston’s way. Frankly, Franz Wagner gave Kristaps Porzingis hell throughout the game with his team-high 32 points. The Magic spent most of the game attacking the paint, forcing Porzingis to slide over and help, which allowed for good looking 3-pointers. The Magic made eight shots from behind the arc. Other times Franz was too athletic, and so were the other bigs for Orlando. Paolo Banchero dropped 29 and hit some tough shots throughout the game.
The C’s struggled with shooting, only hitting nine 3-pointers and at a 33.5% clip. There were points in the game where they put stops together and tied the game in the fourth quarter, but the defensive struggles were clear.
Injuries matriculating through Celtics
The Celtics got back Jayson Tatum who returned off a wrist injury suffered late in Game 1. Tatum didn’t show much layoff as he led the game in scoring with 36 points. Tatum and Jaylen Brown (19) each were the aggressors, but didn’t see much production from the rest of the team.
It’s also worth noting that Jrue Holiday was a surprise no-show with a hamstring injury. They missed his defensive ability on the perimeter and willingness to help on the boards. The back court of the Celtics that was effective the first two games was short-handed.
Though Jaylen Brown appears fine with his knee injury suffered before the playoffs, it seems that injuries are becoming a factor in the Celtics roster. At this point of the season, everyone is playing with some sort of injury as most coaches would say. It’s worth keeping an eye out on.
