As expected, Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum are selected as NBA all-stars this season. For Brown, it’s his fourth time, and he will be a reserve. For Tatum, it will be his sixth and sixth appearance and he’ll be a starter.
Tatum’s averaging 26.7 points, 8.9 boards, 5.5 assists. and 1.2 steals through 46 games. For Brown, he’s averaging 23.4 points, 6 rebounds and 1.2 steals through 42 games.
Both players are deserving as they’ve been the focal pieces for the Celtics this season as other players go in and out the lineup. Kristaps Porzingis has the talent to be an all-star every year, but injuries hold him back. Derrick White hasn’t taken up a bigger role due to the amount of talent on the roster. The Cavs have three players as all-stars which is well deserved since they are the top team in the east.
All-Star Game format
For the all-star game, there will be a tournament-style format. Four teams will play, three teams will have all 24 all-stars (they will be drafted on Feb. 6 by Shaq, Chuck and Kenny who’ll be the general managers of those teams), and the fourth team will be the winner of the Rising Stars event on Valentine’s Day. Those teams will play two semifinal games with the winners advancing to the title game.
