Yesterday we saw the Golden State Warriors defeat the Boston Celtics with a late run in the fourth quarter.

Before yesterday, the Celtics were rolling through most teams except the Indiana Pacers— their only loss on the season going into Wednesday. What I’ve noticed from the two losses the Celtics suffered was how teams were pushing the ball. Whether it was after a Boston score or a missed shot, teams got the ball up the floor and began pushing the tempo. When teams did this, the C’s struggled to get back on defense at times. Part of this issue is because their front court is either on the older side or doesn’t have much speed. Veteran Al Horford struggles against fellow bigs that have some agility and wiggle to their game. Luke Kornet doesn’t have much agility in front of quicker guys either.

Now of course yesterday the Celtics were without Jaylen Brown and Kristaps Porzingis due to injury, therefore the Celtics have never been at full strength this season. Without those two guys the C’s lack speed and athleticism to keep up with teams who want to score in transition.

I do believe Joe Mazzulla will find a way to slow the ball down. The easiest way is to get his players to hustle and get their ass back on defense. The injuries are beginning to pile up for Boston. Sam Hauser has been battling a back injury and Kornet suffered a hamstring injury last night too. The three-pointers, Payton Pritchard’s ability to score off the bench and the starting five has been a huge help.

I do think the Celtics weakness right now is transition defense, but I expect that to be fixed soon.

We also saw the Warriors put pressure on the ball carrier in the pick and roll game, but in the second half that was changed. Instead of having a big to set a screen, C’s put Jayson Tatum in that position so guys can’t double- team. Offensively, I still don’t think the C’s have a clear weakness.
