On Wednesday night, the Indiana Pacers defeated the Boston Celtics in overtime 135-132, the C’s first loss on the season showed a couple imperfections.
The biggest one being the Celtics lack of depth. Even with Sam Hauser back in the lineup after a back injury, the C’s still miss Kristaps Porzingis. The close score isn’t what the actual game felt like–the Pacers were hitting shots and doing everything right. The Bennedict Mathurin dropped 30 and Pascal Siakam had 29. Siakam will always create matchup problems for the Celtics front court with Al Horford struggling to stay in front of quick forwards.
For the firs three quarters the Celtics looked tired and completely out of it. The starters were missing open shots, layups and making ill-advised passes. Payton Pritchard did put in 16 points off the bench, but there wasn’t enough depth from the Celtics to keep up. The Celtics did manage to comeback in the fourth quarter to force overtime, but they ran out of gas.
For C’s fans, don’t fret. The Celtics didn’t take the game serious from the tip-off, and when they decided to turn it on, they tied the game up in the fourth quarter. They took their eastern conference foe for granted and paid for it. Pritchard showed that he’s reliable off the bench, but the C’s certainly can run out of gas.
