After the Patriots suffered another L on the season and going 1-6 on the season on Sunday, there is a bright side.
Drake Maye is a good quarterback.
Yesterday, he went 26 for 37 in passing and threw for 276 yards to go with two touchdowns against the Jaguars in a 32-16 loss. The loss in London was a bad look for the Patriots, but it was mainly the special teams and defensive line that should be scolded, not the young man from North Carolina.
Maye can scramble and still deliver a strike moving to his right or left, Maye can throw a deep ball and throws with confidence. Though the offensive line looks suspect, he didn’t throw his team under the bus after the game which is good as well.
In fantasy football, he’s been doing well too. Yesterday he threw some good passes that his wide receivers dropped. Some blown blocks from the lineman didn’t help Maye. If the Patriots are able to get him some help, than the future looks good. We’ve yet to see how he can deliver under pressure.
Pick him up on fantasy football because he can sling the football and run for yards.
The Patriots aren’t going to make the playoffs by any means, so it’ll give time for Maye to develop. I expected Maye not to start in the beginning of the season and make his appearance in the middle weeks. I believe things are going to plan for the front office and their plan for the rookie. However, the defense has played so poorly that changes are going to have to be made after this season, hopefully the changes help the offense.
