If you’re a fan of the NBA than you like many others didn’t expect the USA men’s basketball team to lose a single game in these olympics–and you were right.
However, this may be the last season in which Team USA will when the gold medal for the next few years.
I personally don’t expect LeBron James, Steph Curry, and Kevin Durant to be present by the next time the olympics roll around in four years. That being said, the torch will likely be handed to Minnesota Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards, Devin Booker, and Jayson Tatum. Those guys are certainly the up and coming stars of the NBA, but the rest of the world is catching up to these players.
Two-time MVP Nikola Jokić, matchup nightmare Luka Doncic are tough enough on their respective teams. Victor Wembanyama who just finished his rookie year, brought his team to the finals as the leading star and will only get better from there. And we can’t forget the fact that Canada was expected to make a stronger run for the gold too. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and former NBA Champion Jamal Murray are still young in their careers. And we can’t forget South Sedan as they almost gave USA a run for their money in the exhibition matches.
Former MVP Joel Embiid could always transfer over to play with France as well if he chooses. Where does that leave Team USA? The superstars are beginning to come from overseas, leaving the American stars to just be guards who can primarily score, subpar assist skills, solid on defense, but no match for the size the other countries possess.
All I’m saying is in enjoy this gold medal this Olympics, because I don’t see it happening the next time the prestigious sports event happens again.
