BOSTON — In what looked like it was going to be a tough battle in the first half, the Celtics ended up pulling out game 2 of the eastern conference finals over the Indiana Pacers on Thursday night, final score 126-110.
The biggest news of all this is the fact that Tyrese Haliburton left the game in the second half with a leg injury. Haliburton finished the game with 10 points. Of course, I hope he’s nor seriously hurt. But if the C’s get off again with another injured star player (Jimmy Butler and Donovan Mitchell) than this will be one of the easiest roads to the finals ever.
However, the first half was very close despite a 20-0 run the C’s went on in the second quarter, but only led going into the third quarter by six points. Jayson Tatum was nowhere to be found with only four points in the first two quarters. Jaylen Brown got in the 40-point club with holding the offensive weight. Brown’s 40 points ties his playoff best, he’s definitely holding the weight in this series. Tatum did come ailive in the second half and finished with 23 points.
“It don’t effect me at all, I just come out aggressive. Make sure I’m aggressive with every read,” said Brown after the game.
Derrick White picked up the slack for Tatum, he finished with 23 points. White made some big three-pointers, and scored when it looked like the Pacers were about to pull a run together.
It’s also worth noting that Luke Kornet left the game with a wrist injury and was questionable. He didn’t end up coming back in the game, but it’s something to keep an eye out. The C’s are now low in the front court department with injuries. There’s no time table on Kristaps Porzingis’ calf injury.
Pascal Siakam played solid with 28 points. Al Horford couldn’t guard him, and the mid range was open for the Pacers in which Siakam took it every time. Head coach Rick Carlisle took Siakam out fairly early when he learned Haliburton wasn’t coming back.
The C’s will head to Indiana with a 2-0 lead and will play game 3 on Saturday.
