BOSTON — For the sixth time in eight years, the Boston Celtics are heading back to the eastern conference finals.
It all comes after an injury-hindered Cleveland Cavaliers team took the floor Wednesday night and loss to the C’s in game 5, 113-98.
Even without Kristaps Porzingis for the entire series, the Celtics still managed to get the series over rather quick. Al Horford had a good day with 22 points and 15 rebounds. Horford hit six-of-13 deep balls and played as a good substitution for Porzingis being out. The Cavs double teamed drivers going to the basket and lived with big Al getting a good look.
Jayson Tatum was an assist shy from a triple-double to go with his 25 points and 10 boards. The game was close for most of the time up until the final minutes of the fourth quarter when the Cavs ran out of gas. Jrue Holiday began locking down on defense, and the C’s started scoring not only in transition, but in their half court set.
The Cavs were without Donovan Mitchell, Caris LeVert, and Jarrett Allen (who sat out this entire series). Although there didn’t seem like there was much hope for Cleveland, they still fought till the end with former Celtics player Marcus Morris Sr. turning back the clock and dropping 25 points along with Evan Mobley’s 33 points.
For the Cavs, this might be the last time they see Donovan Mitchell on the roster. Luckily for them, they’ve learned that Evan Mobley is a potential all-star that can develop into a night mare for opposing teams.
As for the Celtics, they’ll face the winner of the Knicks and Pacers. Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown head into another deep playoff run in their young career. Either team the Celtics will face, Boston will have the upper hand. Pacers are still relatively young and have little playoff experience outside Pascal Siakam. The Knicks are dealing with their own injuries and have looked gas the past few weeks.
