Joe Mazzulla is already making his mark - CelticsBlog

It was already locked a while ago but on Sunday the 64-18 Celtics head into the playoffs as the top seed of the eastern conference — but the eyes are on Joe Mazzulla in this postseason.

There’s no need to fully rehash on how the Rhode Island native got the coaching job with the C’s. The reality is former head coach Ime Udoka spent this season with the Houston Rockets and has turned the team around into being one spot away from being in the playoffs. And although the Celtics have been dominating in the regular season, to Celtics fans and the front office, it’s all about ‘Banner 18.’

Jayson Tatum has been playing at an MVP level, the move to pickup Jrue Holiday and Kristaps Porzingis has proved to be genius from Brad Stevens. Three players on the roster average 20 points or better with Jaylen Brown being in the mix. Both Tatum and Brown have entered their prime. In the two seasons, Mazzulla has a 73% winning percentage and now has playoff experience. However, after losing to the Miami Heat after being down 0-3 in the conference finals, Celtics fans weren’t too happy — hence the roster change. Now it’s ‘championship or bust’ for the Celtics.

That’s not to say that Mazzulla will be kicked out of Boston if they C’s don’t win. If they make it to the finals then he stays, if Boston makes it to the conference finals then he keeps his job for another year, but the pressure is now on. Since Mazzulla taking over, the Celtics have amped up their deep shooting, shifted to a more offensive-minded team. Some fans have liked the style of play, others haven’t.

HOT TAKE: This postseason will determine the future of Joe Mazzulla’s future as a Celtics head coach.
