Celtics - The official site of the NBA for the latest NBA Scores, Stats & News. | NBA.com

The 63-18 Boston Celtics sit at the top of the eastern conference and have locked that spot in going into the playoffs, but their lack of depth on the team is what concerns me.

Don’t get me wrong, all season the Celtics have been showing that they belong to be considered favorites to come out the conference. Jayson Tatum’s 26.9 ppg, Jaylen Brown’s 23 ppg, and Kristaps Porzingis’ 20.1 ppg and 7.2 rpg is certainly the arguably the best big three in the league. Put those three surrounded by Derrick White and Jrue Holiday and you got yourself a championship level team.

However, the C’s don’t have depth, definitely not as much as the reigning champs in the Denver Nuggets. C’s have an much past-his-prime Al Horford, Payton Pritchard – who’s a defensive liability and Sam Hauser – who is a good shooter but not a solid defender.

Against any other team in the NBA, the C’s should be good. Now of course there’s teams in the west such as the Clippers and Thunder that can give the Celtics an issue, but one single injury in the starting five can alter everything. Luckily, the C’s haven’t suffered any significant injury to the starting lineup for any significant time.

The C’s right now deserve to be the favorites in the east, but one injury in the first or second round of the playoffs can change everything. I believe the C’s are in a vulnerable spot.
