Jacoby Brissett's signing with Patriots for intriguing reunion

ESPN announced Sunday that Mac Jones will be traded to the Jaguars. And to be honest, it’s for the best for both parties.

Jones, who spent three years in New England started pretty well his rookie season when he made the playoffs, but then things turned sours. However, a lot of the Pats faults and Jones’ struggles isn’t completely his fault. The Patriots didn’t have the best pieces surrounding Jones, including coaching.

With all the excuses made, it was also clear that Jones isn’t the next Tom Brady for New England. In his first three seasons in the NFL, Jones had a 42-42 record, threw for 46 touchdowns, and 36 interceptions. The defense was always the focal point for the Patriots when he was there.

Now Jones is back in his hometown, which is Jacksonville. Obviously he will be the backup to Trevor Lawrence, but he may have a shot to be a starting QB since the Jags struggled this past season. I believe for Jones’ morale and fresh start, going back to his hometown is the best move possible for him.

As for the Patriots, they will sign Jacoby Brissett, the deal is for one year and $8 million, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. Brissett, who’s now a 31-year-old NFL veteran, has played behind the likes of Brady and has ton of experience. He spent four seasons in Indianapolis, one season in Miami, and one in Cleveland before playing in Washington last season.

This pickup for the Patriots makes sense, the deal is cheap to make for a QB who was around for the Patriots glory days, and also knows what it’s like to be a starter and make the playoffs. Brissett has also shown to be a more than reliable backup quarterback.

Do I believe he’s being brought in to be a starter? I believe the NFL Draft will tell it all. I don’t think brining in Brissett is the long-term option the Pats are going for, but I do believe he was told he’ll get a shot at the starting job.

Perhaps head coach Jerrod Mayo has a good relationship with Brissett. Either way, I believe all moves to be a win-win for each part involve. It was time for Mac Jones to leave New England and get a fresh start.
