Running it up: 10 takeaways from Celtics/Pacers - CelticsBlog

As we’ll see more trades happen because we’re less than a month away from the NBA trade deadline, it’s clear that the C’s don’t need to make a move.

However, perhaps some fans will think a blockbuster trade that shifts the balance of power in the NBA is a good reason for a trade, but I still don’t believe so, here’s why.

Celtics already dominating the NBA

The Celtics currently sit at the top of the eastern conference with a 31-9 record, the Milwaukee Bucks sit behind them at the number two spot. With the new addition of Kristaps Prozingis and Jrue Holiday, the C’s have been firing off 3’s at a rate that other teams simply can’t keep up. Sports Illustrated and ESPN have had the C’s at the top of the league for a while now in their power ranking. Barring a serious injury, the C’s don’t like they’re stopping anytime soon.

C’s hold best defense in the NBA

With the likes of Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown getting buckets on a consistent basis, it’s easy to forget that the C’s play shutdown defense too. With Al Horford and Porzingis in the paint, the C’s have length and shot-altering ability in the paint. Also with the likes of Jrue Holiday and Derrick White, the perimeter defense is top-notch as well. According to NBA.com, the C’s have a defensive rating 110.6, top of any other team in the league. Also, the C’s are tied with the most average blocks with 6.4 rejections a game.

It’s time to gel

There’s already been a large amount of change within the Celtics organization within the past couple years, especially since the era of Brown and Tatum. And with a relatively new head coach in Joe Mazzulla, it’s time for the C’s to start really gelling together and not still figuring out their roster. C’s got rid of Marcus Smart, Malcolm Brogdon, and several other guys who we hoped to play a bigger role. Now with the all-star break approaching, which means the last half of the regular season coming, it’s time for the C’s to worry more about building their chemistry.
