After Devin Haney (31-0, 15 KOs) went up to the 140 weight class to win a title against Regis Prograis on Saturday, there’s a convo to be had when discussing the top guys in boxing.
Before this fight, he beat Loma in what some saw as a controversial decision, but the fact still remains that he won against one of boxings most talented fighters. Now that he just went up in weight and won in a shutout, it just goes to show that Haney doesn’t duck any smoke.
Neither does Bud Crawford, Ryan Garcia and a lot of the other guys, however, with the amount of belts Haney has won, he’s a top dog. He labels himself a ‘legacy’ fighter that cares about what he’ll be remembered for rather than how much money he’s made. Say what you want about that, but can’t deny that he wants to be great in this sport.
As far as Tank, it would be silly to believe that he’s scared of anyone, but while under the Floyd Mayweather thumb, he’s going to be making business decisions. Don’t expect Davis to make any decisions that are made soley on the wants of fans, it’s what will make the most money and still keep him out of too much of harms way.
At some point I do see Tank fighting a guy like Haney or Shakur Stevenson, but not right now while he’s in his prime and the hype train is behind him. Tank is going to be the A-side on every fight, which would be tough for any of the guys mentioned above to accept.
I can see Garcia fighting Haney as they’ve fought one another countless times in the amateurs. Stevenson and Haney can definitely happen as well. Haney isn’t ducking anyone, he’s entering his prime, and he has won countless belts at the age of 25, stuff that even Floyd Mayweather Jr. hasn’t done.
He’s one of those guys that need to be discussed as the best in boxing right now.
