Celtics snap losing streak after escaping Lakers in OT, 125-121

Celtics get back to winning ways by beating Lakers 125-121 in OT - CelticsBlog

BOSTON — The Celtics and Lakers rivalry is unmatched.

The (36-15) Celtics snapped their losing streak with an overtime win over LeBron James and the (23-27) Los Angeles Lakers Saturday night, 125-121.

The most controversial play came at the end of the fourth quarter when James drove to the basket. He attempted to draw contact, but the refs saw no foul, which caused the game to head into extra minutes. James was visibly frustrated with the no call. The C’s ended up outlasting the Lakers.

Jaylen Brown led the C’s with 37 points, Jayson Tatum finished with 30 points and 11 rebounds. Brown came alive in overtime with his deep shooting. Tatum hit the two clutch free throws in OT to extend the C’s lead to 4 points.

The C’s may have been without main starters but they appeared more youthful and faster. Derrick White and Grant Williams stepped in a big way starting for Boston. White finished with 14, Williams with 9.

It’s been a rough time for the C’s due to a multitude of injuries, and Saturday was no different. The C’s were without Marcus Smart and Robert Williams III. Nonetheless, Boston got big help from Malcolm Brogdon who dropped 26 off the bench, my current frontrunner for Sixth Man of the Year.

As for the Lakers, LeBron James did what he always does in Boston, put on a show. He hit six three’s and almost put up a triple-double. James finished with 41 points, 8 assists, and 9 rebounds. Again, the lack of help in deep shooting is what hindered the Lakers.

However, Anthony Davis was in the rotation as he came off the bench and scored 16 points.

The Celtics will face the on fire Kyrie Irving and his Brooklyn Nets Wednesday at home.
