ORLANDO — The (35-13) Boston Celtics failed to crack the chokehold the (18-29) Orlando Magic have on them Tuesday after losing 113-98.
The C’s loss snapped their 9-game winning streak that put them a few games ahead in the eastern conference. The C’s lost the season-series between Orlando. The Celtics were weighed down with the absence of Marcus Smart, Robert Williams, and Malcolm Brogdon. That forced guys like Payton Pritchard and Sam Hauser to play more minutes.
Cole Anthony was a beast off the bench. His high energy, speed, and bounce is what catapulted the Magic over the C’s. Anthony finished with 18 points and 5 rebounds. Wendell Carter Jr. finished with 21 and former Duke Paolo Banchero led the charge with 23 points.
Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown knew they needed to step up despite battling nagging injuries as of late. They both were aggressive on the offensive end but slowed down towards the end of the game. The match was close for much of the first half with the C’s trailing 55-54 at halftime.
Both Brown and Tatum finished with 26 points, but didn’t get enough offensive help from their teammates. Without Williams down low, it allowed 54 points in the paint to be scored by the Magic. C’s also committed 23 fouls to Orlando’s 12.
C’s will look to bounce back Tuesday as they’ll head to Miami to face the Heat.
